Will Run For Money. And I won't even keep the money.

I've successfully created webpages for three runs I'm signed up for this spring, to benefit disease research, prevention, and treatment. Click the event links to learn more and make a donation.

Saturday, May 3: Revlon 5k Run/Walk for Women's Cancer. Donations go to 16 hospitals, research centers, and outreach organizations in NYC.

Saturday, May 17: Healthy Kidney 10k Run. Donations go to the National Kidney Foundation.

Sunday, June 8: Rock & Run on the River 5k. Donations go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering's Cancer Survivorship Initiative.

This will not become a running blog...

...but I thought I'd announce to the world that I'm training for a 10k run May 17th in Central Park, to benefit the Kidney Foundation. Let me know if you'd like to train or run with me.  I'd like to do some fundraising for them, if they'd update their webpage; I just emailed them about that, so as soon as I find out how you can give them money on my behalf, I'll be sure to let you know.

This blog loses its purpose

I've relocated Dean's AT blog to ColumbusCMD. But now that I'll be regularly logging in to xanga to chart his adventures, I may update this blog more often to chart my own.

This Blog finds a Purpose

Dean is flying to Atlanta on Friday morning to start hiking the Appalachian Trail.  He probably won't be updating his xanga blog very often for the next five months, so I'll post updates from him here. Feel free to leave comments you'd like me to pass along to him.

Two groups published papers today announcing that they have created totipotent cells genetically identical to a donor, not from SCNT ("cloning"), but from skin cells. If their methods are confirmed and standardized, this could provide many of the therapeutic and research benefits that have been long-promised - but not yet realized - by embryonic stem cells, while circumventing most ethical concerns.
